Classic sounding tube preamp in a 500 series package
  • Description
  • Features

The Crane Song Syren is a valve microphone preamplifier built in a 500 series format. The valve that the unit uses is a 12AX7, and combined with the dual triode circuitry, the pre amp is a classic sounding piece of hardware in a small and affordable package.

The Crane Song Syren makes use of a dual gain stage circuit, which in turn allows for overdrive effects. There is also a switchable high impedance input included, suitable for instruments. There is also switching included for a high pass filer at the frequency 90Hz (this is at a scale of 24db per octave). Also included on the Crane Song Syren is a pad switch with two settings, which allows for a very wide input range, for a range of different input signals.

The character of the audio quality of the Crane Song Syren can be altered by adjusting the second stage valve circuitry, between having negative feedback, or having no negative feedback. This in turn alters the interaction between the various valve stages, and therefore th…

The audio path color is changed by modifying the second stage tube circuit so it has negative feedback or does not have negative feedback. This changes the interaction between the tube stages and thus the sound of the pre-amp. With negative feedback it is a more accurate audio path with wider frequency response and without negative feedback it has a more open warmer sound.
