The Neve 1073 is probably the most renowned and possibly most desirable preamp in the history of recording. Designed by the Rupert Neve company in the early 70s, it has earned its place as the “gold standard” among preamps and is considered by many to be their “Desert Island Preamp” for its big punchy warm sound.

The legendary Neve 1073 preamp was introduced in 1970 as a module in a console custom built for Wessex studios. Rupert Neve designed a solid-state preamp with transformer balanced inputs and outputs ( a rarity for the time). This was performed due to Neve’s history in broadcast and radio electronics where protecting the signal from degradation was critical. Also, because this was a console pre, the amp could not be source selective, it had to sound good on everything. Wessex Studios was more than satisfied and news began to spread through the independent engineering world. People began to connect the great sound they were hearing on records to the equipment that recorded…

The Neve 1073DPD provides a faithful recreation of two of world-famous Class A Neve 1073 microphone preamplifiers in a single rackspace. Handcrafted and completely hand-wired by Neve’s dedicated professionals in Burnley, England, the modern-day 1073 is produced to the exact specifications of the original modules.

The 1073DPD provides the legendary sound of Neve in a remarkably simple format. Two rear-panel Mic inputs and Line inputs feed dual Class A gain stages, with adjustable Gain control and selectable 48V available on the Mic inputs. Also with the Neve 1073DPD, the mic preamplifiers are complemented by superb Neve-designed analogue-to-digital converters that can capture a performance in any required format. In addition to Neve’s famous Class A analogue, outputs provide digital options, including standard sampling rates up to 192kHz and Neve’s high-quality DSD (Direct Stream Digital) output. This stereo unit is the perfect solution for studios looking to bring in the very essence of the legendary Neve 1073 sound.
