Thermionic Culture have taken their choice of valves very seriously; the final decision of using a pair of 5965s on the summing, and 6SN7 on the output stage provides a beautiful smooth response with a significant amount of headroom, not forgetting the incredible sound quality.

EQ for Thermionic’s popular Top and Bass controls use the unique “variscope” curves, which are designed to add all the bass and high-end you could want without compromising on the sound and giving the kind of harshness you may find with solid state units.

Another unique feature of Thermionic Culture The Fat Bustard MKII is the Attitude control This control adds harmonic distortion in the summing stage. Fully switchable, it ranges from subtle glue-style distortion to aggressive harmonic distortion at high positions.

Stereo width is taken care of too, with a Stereo Spread control allowing the stereo image to be widened, and a Spread Filter control to select the frequency range to which the spread is applied. In this vein there is also a “Bass to Centre” control, allowing bass frequencies in the stereo mix to be summed to mono.

Thermionic use their stepped 31 position switch for the output level, giving full control and over the output volume.
